Region 5 Tournament Watch: Battle in Space City Is 93% Full and Closes Monday, and Austin's December Challenge Is Nearly Gone

Region 5 has 5 tournaments with 75 events at 80% or higher, and 47 of them full. The one to act on this week is Battle in Space City ROC/RJCC in Houston (Oct 17–18). USA Fencing published its caps since our last report, and they show 814 of 877 spots taken and 5 events already on the wait-list. Regular registration closes Monday, October 5.
In Round Rock, the Austin Challenge SYC & RCC (Dec 18–20) now has 17 events full, two more than last week. The October Austin RYC & RJCC is past its regular deadline, with late registration (at about four times the normal fee) until Friday.

Late registration only (USA Fencing late fees, about 4×)
Austin RYC & RJCC (Round Rock, Oct 3–4): the regular deadline was September 15. Late registration runs until Friday, October 2. 24 events are full. The few with a spot or two left are Y12 Women's Saber and Y10 Women's Epee (1 each), and Y10 Men's Foil and Y10 Women's Foil (2 each).
On the national side, the December SJCC in Milwaukee (Dec 4–6) closes October 7, with 923 fencers entered. The October and November NACs are in late registration until October 8 and November 19, at USA Fencing's late fee of about four times the normal entry.
New opportunities: coming up in the region
USA Fencing hasn't opened a new Region 5 regional since our last report, but five are announced for the winter and spring. The opening dates haven't been published yet.

- 12 and Under Demo at the Riverside Hilton (New Orleans, Nov 15; closes Nov 13).
In Region 5 the big USA Fencing events sell out long before the deadline. Austin's October RYC has 24 events full, and the December Challenge has 17 full with two months to go before its deadline. Battle in Space City is next: it's 93% full, and regular registration closes Monday. If Houston is on your calendar, register this week. After that, watch for the five winter regionals to open.
