Region 4 Tournament Watch: AFM Closes Today With Five Fields Left, and Denver Nearly Doubled Its Wait-List

Region 4 is still the busiest region in the country: 12 tournaments with 97 events at 80% or higher, and 78 of them full, up from 62 a week ago. AFM Super Regional (Santa Clara, Oct 23–25) closes today, September 30, with 39 of its 44 tracked events full and five fields still open. At RYC/RJC of the Rockies in Denver, the wait-list went from 6 events to 11 in a week. And at the 3rd Annual BBFC RYC in Las Vegas, all three Youth 12 women's weapons filled.
Further out, San Diego's Elite Cup passed 1,100 fencers, and Mary Rafanelli in Pasadena doubled in a week. Both still have room.

On the national side, the December SJCC in Milwaukee (Dec 4–6) closes October 7, with 923 fencers entered. The October and November NACs are past their regular deadlines. Late registration runs until October 8 and November 19, at USA Fencing's late fee of about four times the normal entry.

AFM's regular registration ends today with five open fields. After that, Region 4's fall comes down to single spots in Las Vegas, Denver and Palm Springs. Las Vegas and Denver each lost four or more fields in a week, well before their deadlines. The winter calendar is where the room is: Elite Cup in January is filling steadily in men's epee but has space everywhere else, Rafanelli in March doubled in a week, and Team.K in February hasn't started. Register for the ones you want now, while "open" still means open.
