Region 3 Tournament Watch: Morris Cup Doubled Its Wait-List and Closes Monday, and American Challenge Is Open

Region 3 has 8 tournaments with 83 events at 80% or higher, and 46 of them full. The week's story is Morris Cup RYC/RJCC in Suffern, NY (Oct 24–25). A week ago it had 7 full events. Today it has 15, with 2,505 of 2,737 spots taken and a Monday, October 5 deadline. Pizza RYC/RJCC in New Haven went from 4 full to 9, and Cobra Challenge in Secaucus from 3 to 7.
The good news: American Challenge SYC/RJCC in Hartford opened on September 24 as announced, and its sister event in Suffern opens October 29. Two New York-area Junior Olympic qualifiers also just posted.

Ben Gutenberg Memorial SYC-RJCC (Rochester, Oct 2–4): the regular deadline passed on September 18, and late registration ends today, September 30. A few withdrawals reopened fields that were full last week: Cadet Men's Saber and Junior Men's Saber have 1 spot each, Y14 Women's Epee 2, and Y12 Women's Epee 3.
On the national side, the December SJCC in Milwaukee (Dec 4–6) closes October 7, and the October and November NACs are in late registration until October 8 and November 19, at USA Fencing's late fee of about four times the normal entry.

Region 3's October and November regionals are going the way Premier Challenge did in September. Morris Cup doubled its wait-list in a week, and registration closes Monday. Pizza and Cobra are a month ahead of their deadlines and already losing youth fields every week. If your fencer is headed to any of the three, register now, not at the deadline. For winter and spring, Chamley-Watson and American Challenge have plenty of room today, and the Suffern American Challenge opens October 29.
