Region 3 Tournament Watch: Morris Cup's Epee Fields Are Gone, and American Challenge Opens Tomorrow

Region 3's fall season is filling up. Since our report last Friday, eight Region 3 events that still had spots have gone to wait-list. At Morris Cup (Suffern, Oct 24–25), Cadet Men's Epee filled all 140 spots after having 11 left on Friday, and Junior Men's Epee, Youth 14 Men's Epee and Youth 10 Men's Saber went with it. Cobra Challenge lost Youth 14 Men's Saber and Youth 14 Women's Epee. Ben Gutenberg lost its last Cadet Women's Foil and Junior Men's Saber spots.

We are tracking 8 Region 3 tournaments with 66 events at 80% or higher, and 47 of them are full. There is also room coming: a big SYC opens tomorrow, and three winter regionals are still mostly empty.

On the national side, registration for the October and November NACs closes today, September 23. Division I Men's Epee is wait-list only at both, and so is Junior Men's Epee at November NAC. Other November fields still have room: Cadet Men's Epee is at 259 of 336 and Junior Men's Foil at 236 of 336.

New opportunities: open or opening, with room

American Challenge SYC/RJCC: Hartford, CT · Mar 19–21, 2027 · registration OPENS tomorrow

Registration opens Thursday, September 24 at 9:00am Pacific (noon Eastern). It is a 36-event SYC/RJCC card, and a March SYC in Hartford will draw from the whole Northeast. The cadet, junior and youth epee fields at Morris Cup and Cobra went to wait-list weeks ahead of their deadlines. Register the morning it opens.

Miles Chamley-Watson Cup RYC/RJCC/ROC: Providence, RI · Feb 5–7, 2027 · closes Jan 8, 2027

Opened September 17. After five days it has 123 fencers against 3,353 total spots in 54 events, the largest block of open capacity in the country. Y12 Men's Epee (13 of 70) and Cadet Men's Epee (16 of 91) are the busiest events. Every field has room. The same events at Morris Cup filled in September, so this is the Region 3 regional to lock in now.

Boston Fencing Club RYC/RCC: Norton, MA · Dec 19–20 · closes Nov 30

This one is filling quietly. It opened September 1 and is already at 307 of 417 spots (74%). Y14 Men's Epee is at 47 of 60 and will be on our wait-list table soon. Cadet Men's Epee is 40 of 84 and Y14 Women's Epee 23 of 49. The caps are small, so register this week if it's on your list.

Neil Lazar Div1/Div2/Veteran ROC: Bridgeport, CT · Jan 1–3, 2027 · closes Dec 6

A New Year's ROC with plenty of room: 85 fencers against 896 spots. D1A Men's Epee leads at 15 of 77. It's a good rating-point opportunity for senior and veteran fencers who got shut out of the fall ROCs.

• Z1 RYC/RJCC (Newtown, CT, Dec 12–13, closes Dec 1): 634 fencers already, and Cadet Men's Epee has 68. It's popular, even though no caps are published yet.
• Duel of the East Coast ROC/RJCC/RYC (Phoenixville, PA, Feb 26–28, 2027, closes Feb 8): 82 fencers across 54 events.

• 5th Annual Drew Page Memorial Open (Willimantic, CT, Oct 24): 21 signed up across 6 events.
• 2027 BFC Youth Series 3 (Boston, Oct 31; closes Oct 17): 143 signed up across 17 events, the largest open AskFRED card in the region.

Men's epee sets the pace in Region 3. Cadet Men's Epee is full at Morris Cup, Pizza and Cobra, and Junior and Y14 Men's Epee are full at Morris Cup and Pizza. This week, youth women's saber and epee started following it: Morris Cup's Y14 Women's Saber went from 16 spots to 2 in five days. The fall regionals are mostly spoken for. Put American Challenge's opening tomorrow at noon Eastern on your calendar, and register for Miles Chamley-Watson and Boston Fencing Club this week while they're still open.
